What to see in Kajaani

There are many historically significant attractions in Kajaani: eg. the castle ruins and the statues of Elias Lönnrot and of Eino Leino.

Built in 1832, designed by C.L. Engel. Restored in 1990. Small festive events may be arranged at the premises.

The statue is located in the corner of streets Linnankatu and Brahenkatu, near the ruins of the castle. The statue was sculpted by Mauno Oittinen in 1942.

The construction of Kajaani Castle got underway in 1604 in order to protect the northwest region of the Kingdom of Sweden. Now, 400 years later, the castle lies in ruins in the centre of the city.

Eino Leino was one of the major poet in finland. This statue was sculpted by Nina Sailo in 1980.
